Despite years of public-health messaging around the seven-to-nine-hour target for adults, the report reiterates that most people are still landing below it. The gap between knowing the number and hitting it is largely a scheduling problem rather than an information one — bedtime keeps getting pushed later while wake time stays fixed. A Few Caveats Worth Keeping in Mind

The report is also industry-connected: Tempur-Pedic sells the beds and has a commercial stake in the conclusions, and this is a joint nonprofit-and-brand report, not a peer-reviewed study. That doesn't make it worthless — the direction of the findings lines up with decades of independent sleep research, which is a large part of why it holds up — but it's a reason to treat the exact framing as directional rather than definitive.

There's nothing here that overturns what sleep scientists have said for years.
